Five offline RPGs worth the storage space

Offline RPGs are getting rarer, which is a shame because they're perfect for long journeys. The good ones give you a whole world in your pocket without ever asking you to log in.

Emberhold Saga tops my list right now — it's got a real story and combat that makes you think. But the genre has a lot to offer if you're willing to dig past the free-to-play noise.

My advice when picking one: check whether saves are stored locally and whether there's any energy system. A great RPG ruined by a wait-timer isn't worth your storage. The ones I keep are the ones that let me play as long as I want.

Turn-based fights tend to age better on phones than real-time ones, mostly because touch controls suit a slower pace. If you're new to the genre, start there before jumping into action-heavy titles.
